The American Heart Association (AHA) proudly announces Mount Sinai Health System as the first Life is Why sponsor in New York City. Life is Why is a national initiative which emphasizes the emotional connection to the work of the AHA. The campaign encourages people to consider what or whom they are living for and use that as motivation to make lifestyle changes and improve their heart health.
Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in New York City. However, 80 percent of heart disease and stroke-related illnesses are preventable. Through the Life is Why sponsorship, Mount Sinai and the AHA will focus on educating adults in New York City—especially in high-risk communities—on heart disease prevention.

Life is Why programs and events will incorporate educational tools such as the AHA’s Life’s Simple 7—which highlights the seven risk factors for heart disease and stroke—and Dr. Fuster’s 50/50 wellness program that emphasizes the importance of group support in promoting heart healthy behavior.
