CycleNation Capital Region hosts Rally Day

CycleNation Capital Region hosts Rally Day

Kate Fruscione, 2020 CycleNation co-chair, speaks at 2019 CycleNation.

Every 80 seconds, someone suffers a stroke. CycleNation is part of the American Stroke Association’s movement to change that statistic.

From Sept. 30 to Oct. 29, participants across the nation are committing to cycle – or walk, hike, run, or engage in whatever kind of exercise they want – to rack up 1 million miles by Oct. 29, when the digital experience that is One CycleNation will celebrate its activity and fundraising.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 a.m., the Capital Region American Stroke Association will host its Rally Day, bringing together leaders and participants of the movement in a Zoom rally before they set out to recruit more participants.

Co-chairs Dr. Alan Boulos, chief of neurosurgery at Albany Med, and Kate Fruscione, Public Relations Strategist at CAP COM Federal Credit Union, will welcome the group. Both Dr. Boulos and Fruscione are also members of the Capital Region Board of Directors of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. During Rally Day, stroke survivor Mickey Orta will share his story.

“CycleNation matters to me because the research of the American Stroke Association and the American Heart Association makes my work possible,” said Dr. Boulos. “We’ve made great progress in treating stroke, and I want that to continue.”

“I have been surprised to learn that stroke affects people of all ages, genders and ethnicities,” Fruscione said. “CycleNation is a great way  for many of us to engage in the kind of healthy activity that can prevent stroke, and raise money so the American Stroke Association can work on a larger level to fight stroke and heart disease.”
