American Heart Association’s 3rd Annual HeartStrong 10K Set for April 15 in Portland

Calling all runners! The American Heart Association’s (AHA) 3rd annual HeartStrong 10K will take place on Sunday, April 15 in Portland. The event’s fundraising goal is $15,000 to benefit the lifesaving work of the AHA in Maine.

Sheri Piers of Falmouth has teamed up with the AHA for this year’s HeartStrong 10K. Piers, known for her impressive and remarkable running career, competed in high school and college, and went on to the Olympic Marathon Trials, the Boston Marathon, Maine’s Beach-to-Beacon, and numerous marathons throughout the U.S. She consistently runs more than 100 miles per week – she also is a mom to three teenage children and is pursuing her career as Medical Director of Saint Joseph’s College.

“I’ve spent my life focused on healthy living,” said Piers. “I know the importance of a healthy heart because my father has suffered from heart disease. As a medical director, I understand that the lifesaving advancements funded by the American Heart Association made a difference in my dad’s life. I hope to inspire others to get involved because heart disease continues to be the #1 killer of Americans. Whether you are an elite runner or run simply for exercise, I hope you will join me for the HeartStrong 10K on April 15 to keep your heart strong.”

Registration and bib pickup begins at 8:00 AM at the Ocean Gateway Terminal located 14 Maine State Pier in Portland. Channel 8 WMTW Anchor Tracy Sabol will welcome the crowd before the race begins at 9:00 AM. Channel 8 WMTW, WPOR FM and The Forecaster are this year’s sponsors.

This event features a $250 cash prize to the top male and female finisher plus additional prizes for the top three male and top three female overall and age-group finishers.
