As chair, Russ Mills is leading the organizational and recruitment efforts in Greater Hartford. He is calling on survivors, walkers, and business leaders to join in to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in the United States. “Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States with over 7,000 deaths in Connecticut each year”, said Russ Mills, Hartford Heart Walk chair. “With COVID-19 having a greater impact on those with cardiovascular conditions, it is more important than ever to fund research and the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association. Our collective efforts directly contribute to saving lives”
With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic keeping more Americans at home, the American Heart Association, is embracing the new normal and moving its iconic Greater Hartford Heart Walk to a digital experience. The Greater Hartford Heart Walk is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity.
The 2020 Heart Walk Experience will be a blend of weekly Walk-Where-You-Are outings throughout the region, a step-challenge competition amongst participants, and multiple learning opportunities. The month-long campaign culminates with an online celebration Saturday morning, October 17th that will feature survivors and caregivers, and the results of the fundraising effort.
The 2020 autumn Heart Walks across the nation are anticipated to be the largest ever as families and co-workers leverage the opportunity to re-connect and get outdoors in safe conditions. Over one million Americans people are expected to take part in a Heart Walk between September and November.
