Independence Blue Cross and AHA Philadelphia announce opportunity for community to provide PPE to local healthcare heroes on November 6

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented need for access to health tools and resources across the nation. Many health systems are still without enough personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection to safeguard their workers from the deadly virus.

Independence Blue Cross and the American Heart Association Philadelphia are teaming up to aid local healthcare facilities in increasing their inventory of PPE and invite the community to “meet them at the start line” on Friday, November 6 – the same day as the 2020 Philadelphia Heart Walk Digital Experience.

For every $25 gift made at heart.org/phillywalk on November 6, IBX will donate 10 personal protective masks to local healthcare workers in our community.

“Now more than ever, we must rally together to support our local community,” said Dr. Richard Snyder, executive vice president, Facilitated Health Networkschief medical officer at Independence Blue Cross, and chair of the 2020 Philadelphia Heart Walk. “I am proud that Independence Blue Cross is at the helm of this unique opportunity to support local healthcare workers, while also expanding our commitment to raising funds to fight heart disease and stroke.”

“We are incredibly grateful for the continued leadership and generosity of Independence Blue Cross and Dr. Rich Snyder,” said John Arnao, vice president of development for the American Heart Association Philadelphia. “Through this opportunity, our community can come together on November 6 – to support our healthcare heroes who work tirelessly to save lives and improve the health of our community by encouraging physical activity through the Philadelphia Heart Walk Digital Experience.

Independence Blue Cross, a long-standing supporter of the AHA, is a leader in advocating for training the Philadelphia community in Hands-Only CPR and recently placed a CPR kiosk. Snyder currently serves on the AHA Southeastern Pennsylvania Board of Directors and is chair of the 2020 Philadelphia Heart Walk.

Also, on Friday, November 6 at 1 p.m., AHA Philadelphia will host a free, digital celebration experience before participants walk/run from wherever they are.
