The American Heart Association is addressing a critical gap in cardiovascular research and awareness by launching a new webinar series aimed at South Asian communities, a group often overlooked in heart disease and stroke studies despite facing elevated risks.
Titled “Community Conversations on South Asian Heart Health,” the monthly series will feature discussions led by leading health experts on the unique cardiovascular challenges experienced by South Asians. Dr. Ami Bhatt, a cardiologist and immediate past president of the American Heart Association’s Greater Boston Board of Directors, will moderate the sessions.
The initiative is part of the Association’s broader mission to bring attention to underrepresented populations in cardiovascular health research, particularly as heart disease continues to be a leading cause of death among South Asians.
The webinars will be open to the public, healthcare professionals, and researchers, offering insights into the latest advancements in heart disease prevention, treatment, and research, with a focus on the health of South Asian communities.
The American Heart Association hopes that by spotlighting these issues, it will help inform better health outcomes for this growing demographic.
