Annual Heart Walk to fund life-saving research, community outreach and education
The American Heart Association, celebrating 100 years of saving and improving lives, announces Richard Lisitano as Chair of the 2025 Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk presented by Yale New Haven Health. Lisitano is president of L + M Healthcare, which includes Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, CT, and Westerly Hospital in Westerly, RI and executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health. The annual Heart Walk, a community campaign focused on the fight against heart disease and stroke, will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
As chair, Lisitano will lead organizational efforts in Greater New London to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke while highlighting efforts to improve lives and communities. Lisitano will call on area volunteers, survivors, and business leaders to step up to support the organization’s efforts to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke.
“The work of the American Heart Association is critical to the health of our communities, and I am honored to serve as the chair of this year’s Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk,” Lisitano said. “L + M Hospital and Yale New Haven Health are long-time supporters of the American Heart Association because our efforts to improve lives and communities here in the Eastern Region so closely align. ”
As the signature fund-raising event for the American Heart Association since 1994, the Heart Walk promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun family environment. Each year, more than 1 million walkers participate in more than 300 events across the country, raising funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers, heart disease and stroke.
“We can’t fight cardiovascular disease alone,” said Adria Giordano, Executive Director, American Heart Association, Connecticut. “Under Richard’s leadership, we are confident that we will achieve the goals for the Heart Walk, which will support the advancement of transformational research initiatives and educational programs in our community to help people lead longer, healthier lives. “
