This October, the American Heart Association hosted a series of Healthy for Good workshops in Dover and Wilmington, giving local residents practical tools to cook healthier meals, shop smarter and feel more confident making everyday choices that support their well-being.

Over four weeks, participants met once a week at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover and at the Central YMCA in Wilmington. The classes featured live cooking demonstrations, simple and affordable recipes, smart shopping tips and open conversations about barriers, goals and what it really looks like to build healthier habits at home.

Attendees weren’t just watching, they were tasting, asking questions, sharing stories and supporting one another in a welcoming, judgement-free space. Many said the hands-on format made healthy cooking feel less intimidating and much more realistic for their daily lives.

At the end of the series, the group celebrated “graduation” together. Each participant received a certificate and a healthy cooking essentials basket filled with tools and ingredients to help them continue cooking at home. The baskets included an American Heart Association cookbook, a crockpot and other basic kitchen items to make heart-healthy meals easier to prepare.

“A healthier lifestyle is within reach!” said Yinka Isichei, community impact director for the American Heart Association in Delaware. “With the skills learned through this workshop, individuals can make healthy habits that stick for good.”

The fall workshops were a tremendous success and the Association is looking forward to bringing more programs like this to Delaware communities.

The Healthy for Good workshop series was sponsored by Bayhealth.
